Change hostname on a Debian-based system
2 September 2010 @ 16:10 BST
by Paul

To change a hostname on a debian:

  1. Firstly, edit the file /etc/hostname to the hostname of your choice.
  2. Then run /etc/init.d/ to ensure the change takes effect.

You can ensure that the change has taken effect with the hostname command and the sysctl kernel.hostname comand.
